July 2018 – Remote Programs

During July 2018 Softball NT ran Remote Sports Voucher Programs in 4 communities. Ti Tree, Haasts Bluff, Imanpa & Finke.

Coaches Steve & Graham roadshowed across Central Australia visiting Haasts Bluff, Imanpa & Finke. Whilst Coaches Kathy & Kaitlin concurrently visited Ti Tree.

FINKE

Our coaches spent 2 days in Finke delivering programs to the local children and teenagers. Coach Steve noted that there is some great talent amongst this group.

By the end of Day 2, the group had formed 2 teams and played a fun game between themselves.

HAASTS BLUFF

Steve & Graham spent 3 days in Haasts Bluff, which included 2 days of skills and drills with players and the youth. Still unknown to us how, the community of Papunya heard of our program in Haasts Bluff. On our coaches final day in Haasts Bluff, Papunya came for a visit and friendly competition. A great day for all!

Softball NT will be travelling to Papunya in October, perhaps Haasts Bluff will be looking for a rematch.

IMANPA

Our coaches were excited to see a good number of participants ready to go upon their arrival in Imanpa. Steve & Graham spent 3 days in Imanpa with enthusiastic groups participating each day. Our coaches were warmly welcomed into NAIDOC celebrations, which included a softball game being played.

The Imanpa women, with their new skills in tow, are due to compete in an regional softball competition held in Yulara.

TI TREE

Coaches Kathy & Kaitlin were kept busy during their week in Ti Tree. From youth morning programs to adult programs in the afternoons our coaches spent a lot of time on the field.

Our coaches provided windmill pitching sessions and drills for interested young women. They ran successful skills programs and modified games with the children.

Coach Kaitlin noted that the women were very knowledgeable about the rules of Softball and they regularly ran game play sessions with these ladies.

The Ti Tree team will travel to Darwin in September for NT Champs.

Softball NT would like to thank the Northern Territory Government for their contribution to these fantastic programs!
