Our CEO Nicky Bacon, has announced her resignation and will be finishing up in her role as of this Friday 12th June. Her departure comes after a sustained period of growth and development in the sport with record participation, especially among Indigenous women in remote communities right across the Territory. It also comes as Darwin Softball League is scheduled to kick off their 2020 Season this weekend with Darwin games commencing this Saturday 13th June, coinciding with World Softball Day.
Nicky Bacon has played Softball for over 30 years and represented the sport at both State and National level as well as a stint playing US college softball in Florida and North Carolina. In addition, she has contributed as both a manager and coach to many International Softball programs for Softball Australia. In 2018/19 she was an NTIS scholarship athlete. In 2013 she became CEO of Softball NT and has since increased participation in the sport exponentially, right across the Territory.
According to Ms Bacon, she is leaving the organisation in a solid position. “My departure will provide the organisation with opportunities for new and fresh ideas to be generated to help it move forward through what lies ahead. I will be leaving the sport in a strong position for my successor to take it into its next phase which I’m sure will be an exciting one” , said Ms Bacon.
“I have loved every moment of my time with SNT – the travel, the people, the programs and watching it develop into its current strong standing in the community. I am so proud of what I and the sport of Softball has achieved here in the NT and there are so many great things still to come.“
Recruitment for Ms Bacon’s successor is currently underway. She will continue to be involved in the sport of Softball in the NT as both a player and a coach.
